Sunday seven

Ok guys and gals - got a question for you.

You’ve got seven sentences to set the scene before your editor’s eyes glaze over and roll back in his head. He’s looking for the next big thing.

What would you write?

:) If you decide to take part, post that we’re keeping track of it at http://digitalisobscura.com :) (http://digitalisobscura.com/vol/2007/sunday-seven/)

Welcome our new staff….

I’d like to welcome our new senior editors, Joyce Anthony and Sharon Wren.

I’ve worked with both of them in the past, and they are both amazing, wonderful, intelligent writers, so I’m honored to work with them.

I met both in a writers group several years ago - Sharon and I both work together at Scribe and Quill - Joyce and I work together at Bi-polarbears and she’s also one of my senior content writers.

So, how does this work exactly?

The long and short of it is we’re going to be posting content on a first come, first served basis, with it all premiering on the 1st of November.  It’ll be in the PDF AND online for discussion from then.

So, if you want your piece to appear first in the email newsletter, then feel free to submit straight away - you’ll also appear on the front page of the blog, and will be able to interact with anyone that wants to give feedback :)

The stuff that’s going online at the moment is of course, a bonus (if you want to look at it that way) so if there’s anything you really want us to write about, just let us know ;)

Editorial calendar update

Hi guys!

Thanks for the overwhelming support for this project so far - I’m delighted that so many people have taken to it, and taken WELL to it.

I know that the honorarium is causing some consternation - if I could pay more, I would, and as soon as we can, I WILL.  This project is not for making money - its about having fun and sharing some cool pieces with the world that I have access to.

And yes, I know, a lot of you are asking whether your work is worth ‘more than a cup of coffee’ - I actually, and wholeheartedly believe it is, but if we can’t pay more, there’s no point in promising more.  Therein leads to issues that I really don’t want to encounter - either we pay more and accept less - or we offer more and possibly find that we’re not able to sustain pay.
So we’re deliberately starting out modest and working our way up.  And I appreciate your understanding in this.

I also wanted to announce that we’ve updated our editorial calendar - and announced our first three themes - added an actual CALENDAR to the site, via google, and can also offer anyone that’s willing to commit to items for all six issues an email address, masthead position, web space and support for things like Wordpress (cause, y’know, I play with that ;)).

If you’re interested, you can read all about it on our guidelines page, or editorial page, or by subscribing to our editorial calendar (the big blue calendar on the far right ;)).

Desire and Madness - an anthology

Desire and Madness – a collected anthology from Gloucestershire University’s creative writing students.
Desire and Madness is a simple enough premise – and as themes go, its pretty well represented throughout the works of a diverse range of students. Eighteen separate, and sometimes disparate, yet compelling voices that cover prose, poetry, and one rather interestingly [...]

Five blogging tips

By D Kai Wilson, Publish Hacks
Blogging is one of those things that everyone that’s been doing it for a while claims they are good at, and its really easy, after about three months to believe that those claiming they know it all, actually do, especially if they teach you a couple of neat tricks.
I’ve been [...]
